The following questions have been compiled to assist employees during the Building H renovation project.
How long will the renovation project take to complete?
The first phase of the Building H renovation plan was completed in 2019 with updates to hallways, restrooms, and the Blizzard Theatre. Phase II will focus on updating classrooms and offices between January 2023 through December 2023. There will also be two small additions to the building constructed. One will provide additional space for the Music program and will be located off the hallway leading to classrooms H122 and H123. The second addition will expand the scene shop that will be located next to the SecondSpace Theatre into the existing courtyard. When will classrooms and offices be moved and reopened in the new spaces?
The week of December 19-22 all furniture and other items will be removed from Building H classrooms and offices and taken to its new location for the 2023 calendar year. The college is closed for winter break Dec 23 through Jan 3. Beginning Jan 4, faculty and staff will be setting up classrooms and offices in order to begin the spring 2023 semester on Tues, Jan 17. Faculty have been designated from each instructional area to assist with preparing the new classrooms for the start of the semester. Please contact your instructional coordinator if you would like to assist with this preparation – ART Travis Linville, MUS Marc Beth, CDN Julie Becker, THE Susan Robinson. All faculty teaching in new classrooms are STRONGLY ENCOURAGED to visit these classrooms January 10-11 to test equipment and familiarize themselves with the instructional space. The sooner concerns and issues are identified the more time we have to resolve them before the new semester begins.
Where will classrooms and offices be located?
Most programs will be relocated to Building K with a small number of courses and offices to other campus buildings. A detailed listing of employees is available at: 2023 Renovation Directory. Adjuncts who previously had office space in Building H will be assigned a new office location for the 2023 calendar year. These will be assigned to align with where your classes will be located in Buildings B, F, G, and K. How can faculty be best prepared to start classes in new locations?
The Information Technology staff will be connecting PCs and iMacs for classrooms and offices through January 10. Faculty are strongly encouraged to visit offices and classrooms to test out equipment and PCs starting January 11. The earlier this can be done will assist with identifying problems and getting them resolved before classes begin on Tues, January 17. NOTE: ECC is closed Mon, Jan 16 for the Martin Luther King observance.
Where will I receive any postal/campus mail?
Faculty and staff will be assigned mail locations based on their primary location. Please refer to the detailed listing of employees is available at: 2023 Renovation Directory for the designated mailroom location and access details.
Is Building K open on the weekends?
The building is open 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturdays. It is not open on Sundays. Staff or faculty needing to access the building on Sundays will need to contact the Dean’s office to request special permission.
Where can LVPA faculty and staff access large copiers?
Building B third floor hallway (outside classroom B313)
Building F room 107 (behind the information desk)
Building G second floor hallway (nearest to Building F)
Building K room 111 or room 174
Where are faculty/staff parking areas?
Refer to https://elgin.edu/about-ecc/campus-map/ for information about parking on campus. Staff located in Building K will have access to designated parking on the west side of the building.
Will there continue to be performances during the renovation?
Academic performances by ECC students through our Music and Theatre departments will be held in the Spartan Auditorium (Building G). External performances will be held at the Blizzard Theatre. For more information, see the Arts Center schedule at https://www.eccartscenter.org/events/.
During renovation how much of Building H will be closed or accessible?
The main lobby and hallways on the first and second floor will be open much of the 2023 calendar year. These may close periodically depending on the construction schedule for adjacent spaces. The only external door that can be used to enter Building H will be H-1-1 (main door). There will be no elevator or stair access to the second and/or third floors as this will be restricted to construction staff only.
Will the loading dock between Buildings H and I/G be available during construction?
This area will be restricted for access by the construction crew only. Contact Ed Cook with questions or concerns.
What is stored behind the temporary walls in the Building H lobby?
Percussion instrumentation will be stored in this area throughout the 2023 calendar year. Faculty needing access to this equipment must contact Alex Desimone adesimone@elgin.edu.
Where can students access Mac devices outside of the Building K?
Within the Library (Building C), students can use is a small lab set up that provides students with access to Mac devices.
